Webmarketer is a web consultancy business based in Sydney that specialises in online marketing.
Mark Van Laarhoven is the principal consultant and has been involved in all aspects of Web technologies since the web began. Building his first Bulletin Board Service back in 1986 with a 1200 Baud modem, friends that was before the web hit the ground. The first website Mark built was in 1996 using Netscape Composer. A lot of changes have come and gone in the time since then and Mark has been involved in the entire journey. This gives him a unique perspective, as he is able to assess the differentiating factors that separate a "fad" from a technology that is here to stay.
When Rich Media such as Flash and Shockwave came into existence many critics claimed these were fads, things that would be here today and gone tomorrow, but Mark saw potential and invested his time heavily. With the emergence of Web Standards set by the W3C, many said "We'll set our own standards" again Mark was there and disagreed.
